Doug Millsaps, Head Coach of the Rolling Meadows Mustangs Football team was named the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week, for week 9.
Millsaps was given the award after the Mustangs pulled off a stunning upset Victory over Prospect 46-38
The Bears will honor him in December 6th at Soldier Field during the home game against the St Louis Rams.
Playoffs?.. Playoffs? Indeed.
The words Playoffs and Rolling Meadows are beginning to be a common phrase in the Northwest Suburban IHSA circles.
The Mustangs are headed to the playoff again this year under the guidance of Senior Jimmy Garoppolo.
In what has become “The Year of The Quarterback” in the Chicago area, Garoppolo has become the force of the Mustang team and should get more attention than he has had from College scouts around the country.

“I feel I should be at the top of the list,” said Garoppolo. “ I’ve put up big numbers. I’ve put two good years at quarterback under my belt. I have learned the position and become more of a quarterback than an athlete.”
He has the perfect size for a quarterback.. 6-3, 212 pounds. He can do it all… Run, Pass. Block and take a hit and keep on ticking.

A win Saturday against a tough Lake Zurich team should make the scouts stand up and take another look at this young quarterback.
Coach Millsaps could hardly agree more. “Athletically, he is the prototype of what college coaches are looking for in a spread quarterback.”
The Mustang team has had to overcome tragedy this season… At their homecoming game, Head coach Millsaps father collapsed and suffered a fatal heart attack in the stands watching the game. … The Mustangs won that game with heavy hearts… and never looked back .. Dedicating this season to the memory of the fallen coach’s father.

There is nothing more final than the last game of the season, but for some of these Mustang Players.. it was the last game of thier high school career.
The Lake Zurich "Bears" started off fast in the mud and slop at Meadows..
Here #5 Jacob Brinlee of Lake Zurich sprinted to an easy touchdown run to give the "Bears" an early lead in the 1st quarter 6-0..
This was not Jimmy Garoppolo's night...having the wosrt game of the year at the wrong time. Turnovers killed any chance of a Mustangs miracle comeback today..but for Garappolo, he should be proud of his play this season. Very few players at any level of play could do what he did.
Tonight, he played offense, defense and special teams.. Nearly a one man army.. an "Army of One" so to speak. Had the field conditions been better.. who knows how this game would have turned out.
But as coach Millsaps told his team after the game... It was "His fault".. he should take the blame for the terrible field conditions they played in tonight. Even a professional team would have had a difficult time on this field.
But the Mustangs again had a great 2009 season and should be proud of the accomplishments this team had.
These Bears from Lake Zurich were hardly scared this Halloween evening.
