Schwan's Home Service Partners with Jeff Gordon Foundation to Fight Pediatric Cancer
Proceeds from specialty ice cream tins go to charity.
Charlotte, NC., (May 27, 2009) - Schwan's Home Service, Inc. announced today a partnership with four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon to raise money to support the fight against pediatric cancer. Under the partnership, $1 from each sale of specially made ice cream tins featuring Gordon and his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet will go to The Jeff Gordon Foundation to assist in the Foundation's fight against pediatric cancer and support for the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital.
"I definitely have a sweet tooth and I thoroughly enjoyed the 'research' I did tasting the different flavors," said Gordon.
"While I enjoyed that experience, I really appreciate Schwan's joining my foundation in the fight against pediatric cancer."
Pediatric cancers are the cause of more childhood deaths than any other disease. The Jeff Gordon Foundation focuses its support on pediatric cancer research and the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital. Over the past ten years the Foundation has granted over seven million dollars to pediatric medical initiatives.
"We are proud to partner with Jeff Gordon in his ongoing efforts to help children suffering from cancer. Jeff has been great to work with, and it has been a pleasure helping him in developing his ice cream flavor and designing this collectible tin.
Our customers will really enjoy these," said Schwan's Home Service President Scott McNair.
This collectible tin was designed for the race fan and Jeff Gordon enthusiast. Each tin will be filled with one of Gordon's all time favorite flavors, "Wide Open Mint Chip Swirl," a combination of mint ice cream, chocolate fudge and chocolaty chips. One in every 1,000 tins has been personally autographed, and customers who purchase the tins will receive a special Jeff
Gordon Fan Club membership discount.
The commemorative Jeff Gordon ice cream tin can be pre-ordered online at www.schwans.com/jeffgordon.

GORDON INTIMIDATED EVERY TRIP TO BRICKYARD
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 21, 2009) - After thousands of competitive laps and four trips to Victory Lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, what will Jeff Gordon feel as he takes his first trip around the historic speedway this weekend? Intimidation.
"The first couple laps around the track you always use too much brake," said the Inaugural Brickyard 400 winner (1994) and driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. "The straightaways are really long and you build up a lot of speed. You have this tunnel vision, and all you see is wall and grandstands. The corner appears to be extremely tight and extremely narrow - and it is.
"You always snap out of the gas way too early and use too much brake because the corner is intimidating at first. But you realize the track can handle more than that and the car can handle more than that. "After a few laps, you get back into the groove and regain a level of comfort."
Along with his four victories, Gordon has three poles, nine top-fives, 12 top-10's and an 8.6 average finish in 15 starts - all tops among NASCAR drivers at the 2.5-mile track.
He has also led 440 laps - 225 more than his closest competitor - around the "eight-turn" track. "There is no other track like this, and it has four unique corners," said Gordon, who is second in point standings, 175 behind leader Tony Stewart. "Actually, I think it has eight
unique corners.
"The entry into each of the four corners is different, and I look at the exit of each as a different corner, as well. Exit speed is important, especially leading onto the long
straightaways." While he is the lone stock car driver with four wins at the famed track, Gordon - who grew up in nearby Pittsboro - understands each win here is not the accomplishment of one individual.
"More than most race tracks, Indianapolis Motor Speedway is about the team," said
Gordon, who will host the 8th annual Gordon's Celebrity Bowl on Thursday to benefit Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. "It's about good communication prior to the race in setting up the car. It's about the pit crew being solid throughout the race. And it's about good communication during the race while tuning on the car that will hopefully get you to Victory Lane.
"And earn you that special, gritty kiss with the bricks that we all want."

GORDON AND TEAMMATE SEARCHING FOR EXTRA CHICAGO LOOT AND THEY DID IT
JOLIET, Ill. (July 7, 2009) - A $1 million bonus is up for grabs in the LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, but only a pair of drivers - Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin - can secure the extra loot.
At Michigan International Speedway in June, the duo finished one-two with Martin taking the victory in the LifeLock 400. To win the bonus provided by the title
sponsor of the race, the pair must occupy the top-two spots - in any order - at the conclusion of Saturday night's event.
"I'd love for that to occur," said Gordon, who is second in the standings, 180 points behind leader Tony Stewart. "After his Daytona weekend, I think Mark wants a
good, strong performance this weekend. "And a second-place finish behind me can earn him a lot of points and a lot of dough," Gordon joked. "We can't afford to spot him too many bonus points before the Chase begins, so I'd prefer he finish second in this instance.
"Seriously, I think Mark will be one of the drivers contending for the win this weekend and I hope we are battling him for that position."
In eight career starts at the 1.5-mile track, Gordon has one win (2006), one pole (2004), four top-fives, five top-10's and a 10.1 average finish. Last year, Gordon posted
an 11th-place finish in the first night race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at the Illinois track.
"I'm really looking forward to Saturday night's race," said Gordon, who will drive a specially painted No. 24 DuPont/National Guard Chevrolet this weekend. "I feel our intermediate track program has really turned a corner this year."
In six starts on intermediate tracks 1.5 -to-2 miles in length in 2009, Gordon has one win (Texas), three second-place finishes (California, Atlanta and Michigan), a sixth (Las Vegas) and a 14th (rain-shortened Charlotte event).
"Another strong run would be nice, especially going into an off-weekend," said Gordon, who is scheduled to be an award presenter at The 2009 ESPYs next week.
"It gives the guys some confidence heading into the Brickyard." And a bonus for Gordon if a certain teammate finishes second.

Jeff Gordon Wins at Daytona!

Jeff Gordon celebrates ending a year-and-a-half winless streak in Victory Lane after he drove his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet to the top spot of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Gatorade Duel 1 at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday.

Jeff Gordon takes the checkered flag Thursday to win the first of two Gatorade qualifying races for Sunday's Daytona 500

Some might say Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, may have had a couple of good luck charms Thursday at NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Gatorade Duel 1. Wife Ingrid Vandebosch and daughter Ella Sophia hang out with the four-time NASCAR champion the grid prior to the race at Daytona International Speedway that he won.
